Double-Sided Wobblers, Talkers, Screamers and Danglers

Double-sided shelf wobblers offer advantages you just can't get with a traditional wobbler. For instance, did you know that two sided wobblers offer more advertising real estate on the back of the tab? Printing both sides of the wobbler guarantees that your branding is consistent when it's installed into the channel of the shelf edge. These are the kinds of details that make your signage stand out from the others. We'll go through the ways some companies use double-sided wobblers to give them an edge in product aisles; and even some ways to use them that you may not have thought of. And, like all our wobblers, talkers and aisle violators, these 2-sided wobblers include Dilco® Clipfree® tabs. No clips means savings in assembly labor as well as additional products. With Clipfree®, you just snap and go!

WHY PRINT THE BACK OF A SHELF WOBBLER?

Other than printing both sides, double-sided shelf wobblers are printed just like their single sided counterparts. They are printed flat with a message area, a neck and a tab to insert into the channel on the edge of a store shelf. They too can have adhesive tape added to the front side of the tab. However, because both sides are printed, you can determine how the tab and neck will appear once the shelf wobbler is installed into the shelf's channel. In other words, with double-sided printing, the neck and tab don't have to appear white.

In addition to having a more consistent wobbler (with the back of the neck and tab matching the texture, color and overall design of the front), a double-sided wobbler also offers an extra form of advertising. When the tab is printed upside down on a double-sided shelf wobbler, it becomes a mini shelf strip, reiterating your logo, message or offer.

As we also show on our file prep page, once a standard single sided wobbler is bent over and installed, what you're actually seeing is the back of the tab. That's why it's white regardless of whether or not you have color printed all the way up the front of the shelf wobbler. To make it the same color once it's in use, you need to have the back side of the neck and tab printed the same as the front. This can be accomplished by double-sided printing in several ways.

SEPARATE IMAGES ON FRONT AND BACK OF DOUBLE-SIDED SHELF WOBBLER

Micron® Crucial® Ballistix® Magic Memory's double-sided shelf wobbler (below) has an image on the front which accompanies the product, and a closeup of the product on the back. We printed these wobblers (this is one in a series of four) with the same unique background texture on both sides, making the design cohesive.

PRINTING THE BACK OF THE WOBBLER EXACTLY LIKE THE FRONT

This is by far the easiest method since it doesn't require you to make a separate set of artwork for the back. The cost for printing the back is the same whether we print a little or a lot. By having both sides printed, the color and design of their shelf wobbler remains consistent. The shopper may not consciously notice that the tab and neck continue the brand, but they will notice if the wobbler next to it doesn't.

PRINTING THE NECK AND TAB ONLY ON THE BACK OF THE WOBBLER

Of course, there are other ways to make sure the tab and neck match the rest of the shelf wobbler when it's installed. Some of our clients have us print only the neck and tab on the back of their double-sided shelf wobbler, leaving the message area white. When inserted into the channel, the tab and neck will match the color printed on the front of the neck. The front side of the tab and the back of the message area can be left white vinyl since neither will show when the wobbler is in-use.

USE THE TAB AS A MINI SHELF STRIP

This is one of the best marketing advantages of two sided printing; using that extra bit of promotional real estate on the back of the tab to display your logo one more time. Suddenly the tab is more than merely functional. It's like adding a mini shelf strip to your wobbler. This not only guarantees consistency in your branding, but also affords you two separate areas to get your product's name out there. And who doesn't like a two-for?

Dry Soda® has their logo printed upside down on the back of the wobbler's tab, so that it's actually right-side-up when snapped into the channel. The balance of the back of their wobbler is printed in a solid color to match the front. These are the "little" things that make double-sided wobblers so successful. When they sit on a shelf with single-sided wobblers, theirs definitely stands out.

USE OUR CLIPFREE® TAB AS A FULL-SIZE SHELF STRIP

If using the tab as a mini shelf strip is a good idea, what about thinking even bigger? That's what Coors Light® did with this Double-Sided Shelf Wobbler/Shelf Strip Combo. Wait... what? All one piece? Yup. By taking full advantage of Dilco's® Clipfree® wobblers, they had us expand the tab on the one-piece wobbler to make a full 7" shelf strip. I little bit of genius on a store shelf.

One-Piece Double-Sided Shelf Wobbler/Shelf Strip for Coors Light: By extending the tab to 7" long, they leveraged their shelf space with a wobbler and a vinyl shelf stip all in one piece. That means no clips, and no separate pieces to come apart as shoppers reach past it to stock up on their product.

The examples above are all ways in which to use double-sided printing so that the color and design remain uniform when the wobbler is on the shelf. Whether you choose to use the same artwork for both the front and back, or print the color on the back of the neck and tab only, a double-sided shelf wobbler conveys attention to detail. This often translates to a higher perceived value of the product it's promoting.

USING THE BACK OF YOUR WOBBLER FOR INVENTORY CONTROL

In addition to using two sided printing for aesthetics, there are also practical reasons to print on both sides of a shelf wobbler. For example, The Honest Kitchen® prints individual UPC codes on the backs of their wobblers. This makes reordering a snap. When they're low on a particular wobbler, they can use the code to order more without having to locate the specific artwork. Because they have such a variety of wobblers (we print about 10 versions), this takes the guesswork out of reordering. How easy is that?

The Honest Kitchen uses the back of their double-sided wobblers to include a bar code for easy reordering when they need more. This comes in handy since they have quite a few different versions.

MAKE YOUR DOUBLE WOBBLER DO DOUBLE DUTY

I think this last example is just smart, smart, smart. The double-sided shelf wobblers for Dr. Brown's® not only have 2 separate images on the front and back, they also have 2 different languages. This makes perfect sense in countries like Canada where, by law, products and signage must be in both French and English. Likewise, in areas where there is a heavy population of non-English-speaking consumers, the wobblers can simply be used with the language best suited for that demographic.

Dr. Brown's double-sided wobblers include separate images and languages on the front and back. This allows them to simply use the other side of the wobbler in communities where English is not the language of most customers.

PRICING FOR DOUBLE-SIDED WOBBLERS

As you can probably tell, we make a lot of double-sided shelf wobblers (aka: double-sided talkers, double-sided danglers). Not as many as the "standard" single sided variety, but this seems to be changing rapidly. As we've started showing more of the 2-sided variety, companies have come to understand just how valuable it is to print on both sides; it's all in the details.

We're also proud to share our brand spankin' new rate sheet for double-sided wobblers. These rates are based on using stock die templates (which are free to download directly from the price page).

HOW TO TELL IF A SAMPLE IS SINGLE- OR DOUBLE-SIDED

Like regular wobblers, most double-sided wobblers are 4-color process (CMYK) digitally printed on 10 mil vinyl. The printing information will reflect that the wobbler is two sided by using the term 4/4-color process. The "4/4" indicates that both sides have been 4-color process printed. Likewise, a spot-color screen printed shelf wobbler that is double-sided will be noted as 1/1-, 2/1-, 2/2-color screen printed, for example. The first number indicates the front, while the number after the "/" indicates the back. Want to see more samples?
